Mahsa Ankooti (born 1990, Tehran, Iran) is a self-taught, multidisciplinary painter whose practice spans pen drawing, watercolour, pastel, charcoal, acrylic, oil, and textured mixed media. After experiencing a period of depression, she discovered painting as a profound path to healing, a source of enduring joy, and ultimately the central motivation in her life. For her, art is not only a creative act, but a way of tending to emotional wounds and transforming them into colour, form, and movement.
Although her academic background is in science—she holds a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Science and Research Branch of Islamic Azad University in Tehran and teaches mathematics—Ankooti describes herself as a “multi-dimensional” person who is continually seeking new artistic paths. Since formally beginning her professional art journey in 2024 (1403), she has consistently created original works; none of her pieces are copies, and all are based on her own ideas, often in abstract or strongly expressionist modes.
Ankooti’s works have been featured in numerous group exhibitions, including shows at Marjan Gallery, Airik Gallery, Naghsh Jahan Gallery, Ehsan Gallery, and Milad Tower Gallery in Tehran, as well as group exhibitions at Muscat Art Expo in Oman and an international painting exhibition in the Netherlands. Four of her artworks were published in the art book Dar Pas-e Khatt-ha (“Behind the Lines”) in 2024 (1403). She primarily works in an expressionist style, using painting as a language to express her emotions and to repair the wounds she has encountered in this world. Ankooti lives and works in Tehran and speaks Persian, English, and Turkish.
